Ooi and Kanak’s remedy

Ooi’s remedy: I am Chinese but I grew up in Malaysia. Sesame is popular with Chinese people. Sesame seeds and oil are used for cooking because of the calcium, which is good for the bones. To help prevent osteoporosis, cook food with two tablespoons of sesame oil.

Kanak’s remedy: I use sesame oil to relieve my knee pain. Take two tablespoons of warm sesame oil and massage on the affected area, morning and evening.

Origin: Native to India. There is archaeological evidence that it was cultivated at Harappa in the Indus Valley between 2250 and 1750 BC.

History, myths and legends: Sesame seed is considered to be the oldest oil crop known to humanity. In Hindu legends and beliefs, sesame seeds are a symbol of immortality. According to Assyrian legend, when the gods met to create the world,they drank wine made from sesame seeds.

Remedies: The sesamin in the seeds has recently been discovered to help treat high blood pressure and cholesterol. Sesame seeds also relieve constipation. Sesame oil is used as a liver tonic.
